Painting and printmaking are my passions. I am inspired by the natural environment and love the luminosity and immediacy of watercolour. Being part of Maleny Printmakers has rekindled my love of printmaking. Capturing the light and spirit of my subject using a variety of mediums, is a constant challenge.
Stephanie McLennan (signed Barbie) was born in Moree, NSW. She has a passion for travel and an attachment to the landscape. Curiosity and beauty are important to her. She has lived on the Blackall Range, QLD since 1979. Stephanie is a watercolourist with an interest in Asian brushpainting techniques and delights in the vitality of ink. This extends to her printmaking. To maintain spontaneity in her work she needs to escape the studio to paint, thus joining a group of ‘plein air’ painters travelling west in 2003. The group has since travelled to many parts of Queensland and overseas and subsequently held very successful exhibitions. Her studio is set in a wild garden surrounded by sclerophyll forest. She enjoys sharing this with family, friends and those who wish to visit her working studio. 2006 her painting ‘Palms, Tamborine’ was acquired for the St Bernards Hotel Art Collection. 2007 ‘Random Memories, Carisbrooke’ was judged Best Watercolour, Zonta Women in Art and was acquired for Scots PGC School Archive.
